The security firm Check Point has recently discovered a new malware called WAPDropper. The malware is spread through malicious apps and is targeting Android users in Southeast Asia. If victims download the infected app through unofficial app stores then they will be charged an expensive premium mobile service. This is a similar method of malware attacks to those which became popular in the late 2000s.

Check Point’s security researchers said that the new Android malware is only acquired through malicious apps on third-party app stores. Once the malware has been downloaded through the malicious app it will sign users up for premium phone numbers, and the users will then charged large fees for other services which they are not using.
