Over 50 of the world’s most renowned experts in cyber-crime and security have come together for one week only, to offer their time and expertise FOR FREE to companies who want to become more security savvy and cyber-aware – all with the aim of making UK PLC a safer place to trade online.
The campaign has the tagline “we take security seriously – do you?” and sees penetration testers, ethical hackers, lawyers, professors and a host of other cyber-security experts drawn from large corporations and IT security companies offering their tips and pearls of wisdom for on a range of awareness raising topics.  These include “Top 10 cyber threats to SME’s & their cyber Insurance options” in person at the Walkie Talkie Building to lots of webinars on  “An ethical hackers viewpoint on how to protect your organisation”,  “Cloud Security – and mitigating risk”, “Building a cyber-security strategy”, “How do hackers think – lessons from the Red Team”,  “How do you create anonymity on the Web”, “Winning your privacy back”, “What could a breach cost you?”, “Next generation Security – what will it look like?”, “How to avoid a phishing attack?”, “Is the Internet of Things worth getting worked up over?”, “How do you prevent becoming a Vishing Victim.”
The campaign has attracted the support of a range of large businesses, universities, associations and government bodies including: Unilever, Lloyds Bank Group, BT, HP Security Voltage, Canon UK, HSBC, Publicis Groupe, GlaxoSmithkline, Lloyds Bank, as well as the Department of Culture, Media and Sports and many of the world’s leading IT security vendors.
Yvonne Eskenzi, organiser of Security Serious Week says “This week is all about raising awareness and improving people’s attitude towards security, especially as many of us at some time in our lives will become a victim of cyber-crime. You only need to speak to the IT security experts and they’ll tell you they’re fighting a losing battle as hackers become more and more clever and the only way we’ll be able to create a more secure online place to trade is if together we become more security savvy.  That’s what this week is all about learning from the experts who can impart their pearls of wisdom to those people who want to become more security aware.  I’m delighted that we’ve got over 50 supporters on board all of whom are prepared to give their time up for nothing to create a safer online community.”
The week will kick off with a press photocall with all the supporters standing in solidarity to show the world that UK PLC is serious about security. The photocall will be held at Trinity Square Gardens, outside Tower Hill tube station with the Tower of London as the back drop at 12 noon on 26th October.
Organisers of Security Serious Week are also offering for FREE a short story book entitled “Hackers Tales” which is all about cyber-security scenarios based on fictitious stores of what can go wrong when security goes array.  It’s full of helpful hints and tips to provide the reader with best security awareness practices.  The book, which has been sponsored by Tripwire and PhishMe can be downloaded from www.securityserious.com
