Barracuda Networks, Inc., today announced that Barracuda CloudGen Firewall received a Recommended Rating from NSS Labs in their 2018 Next Generation Firewall Group Test. In this year’s test, 10 products were examined for security effectiveness, performance, and total cost of ownership (TCO).

“This test, which has a strong focus on IPS and SSL security and performance, demonstrates what we are hearing from our customers regarding how effective our CloudGen Firewall is,” said Klaus Gheri, VP and GM of Network Security at Barracuda. “Barracuda’s cloud-ready firewalls are ideal for multi-site enterprises, managed service providers, and other organizations with complex, dispersed network infrastructures.”

Barracuda’s Cloud Generation Firewalls redefine the role of the firewall from a perimeter security solution to a distributed network optimization solution that scales across a number of locations and applications, connects on-premises and cloud infrastructures, and helps organizations transform their businesses

“Barracuda provided the solution that enabled us to react to our fast-changing business and IT environments – the speed and flexibility of reaction, the simplicity of implementation, meant we could maintain and enhance this solution going forward very easily,” said Pascal Wenders, ICT Team, Aevitae, a Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Customer.

Protection against network intrusions, advanced threats and data exfiltration

Barracuda CloudGen Firewalls include rich threat intelligence from multiple vectors – email, web and network – for continuous detection of zero-hour threats. Protection with IDS/ IPS and spyware protection. Advanced Threat Protection and botnet detection. Integrated content filtering and reporting

SSL Interception

All Barracuda CloudGen Firewall models can apply IPS, Virus Protection, Application Control, URL Filtering and even Advanced Threat Protection to SSL encrypted web traffic using the standard ‘trusted man-in-the-middle’ approach. SSL Interception can be fine-tuned to exempt local networks, users/groups, URL Filter categories or custom defined domains from SSL Inspection.

Performance Based Routing and SD-WAN

To achieve the best possible user experience across your WAN and up to the cloud, Barracuda CloudGen Firewall models can detect available bandwidths and latency between VPN endpoints in real time. The firewall policy engine can then dynamically select the most suitable uplink for each application. In addition, if the measured bandwidth of an uplink is not sufficient to sustain business-critical traffic (e.g., VoIP), the CloudGen Firewall automatically shifts sessions for non-critical traffic to secondary links, to free up high-quality bandwidth for critical traffic.
