Less than one in three Americans are concerned about their data security while working from home despite a 400% rise in cyber attacks during the pandemic, according to a new report from Unisys.
Mathew Newfield, the chief information security officer of Unisys, said the Unisys Security Index Report found for the first time since 2010, internet security was not a top concern for Americans.
“A lot of these people are now working from home, and they have the mindset of because I’m on a machine that was given to me by the company or the corporation I work for, that I am secure just like I would be in an office,” Newfield said.
He warned companies to not get a false sense of security, and to reevaluate networks, policies, technology they are using, and to provide training to employees.
“Anything you can do to help your employee secure their home network is not only good for the company, but it is good for the employee and the employee’s well-being if you want them to focus on their job,” Newfield said.
Sam Segran, the CIO and vice president of information technology at Texas Tech, said the basics are the same.
