Law firm Fragomen, Del Rey, Brensen and Loewy have confirmed they have suffered a data breach which involved the personal information of both current and former Google employees. The law firm based in New York provides companies with employment verification screening services in order to determine whether potential employees are authorized to work in the United States.
In order to work in the United States, every employer must have a Form I-9 file of every employee in order to ensure that they are eligible to work in the United States legally, and will not be subject to any restrictive immigration rules. However, these Form I-9 files contain a large amount of sensitive information on each individual, including government documents, such as ID cards, driver’s licenses, passports, and other personally identifiable data. This makes them big targets for hackers and identity thieves.
