Bugs in Firefox, Edge and Chrome browsers have been discovered to allow remote system hijacking. The vulnerability found within Mozilla Firefox (known as CVE-2020-16044) has been reported separately from a different bug which has been reported in Google’s browser engine, Chromium. Chromium is used in Google Chrome as well as the latest version of Edge. Creators of the browsers are asking users to patch these newfound vulnerabilities as if they are left unpatched users run the risk of having hackers hijack their systems that are running the software.
On Thursday, Mozilla released a statement that said, “A malicious peer could have modified a COOKIE-ECHO chunk in a SCTP packet in a way that potentially resulted in a use-after-free. We presume that with enough effort it could have been exploited to run arbitrary code”.
