Wesleyan Assurance Society deploys OutScan, HIAB and PCI for a Total Vulnerability Management Solution

Offering tailored financial advice to select professional groups, Wesleyan Assurance Society requires a complete vulnerability management solution to protect its internal and external assets while reducing the amount of time and money spent on finding and correcting vulnerabilities.
Previous Solution
Wesleyan carried out annual penetration testing to check for vulnerabilities, however it recognised a need to revise its security procedures, in order to reduce its risk exposure between annual tests.  Additionally, in light of recent compliance initiatives such as PCI DSS which governs the safeguarding of credit cardholder information, the organisation wanted a solution that could protect its assets while achieving PCI compliance from an Approved Scanning Vendor.  It was important that the solution offered thorough network coverage, provided accurate and complete reports while taking into account time sensitivities and cost effectiveness.
Why Wesleyan Assurance Society chose Outpost24:

  • Cost efficient Solution
  • Ease of use
  • Effective reporting and management
  • Superior customer service
  • Intuitive Web Interface

Outpost24’s Solution
After considering various vulnerability management solutions, Wesleyan selected Outpost24’s cloud-based OUTSCAN® and OUTSCAN PCI® solutions to assess and manage its perimeter risk exposure and HIAB® to assess and manage its internal network, providing them with a total vulnerability management solution.
“After an initial trial, the benefits of the solution were immediately visible to all at Wesleyan,” said Eddie Humphries, Risk Manager at Wesleyan Assurance Society. “The products were easy to use and intuitive, enabling us to run on-demand scans regularly and cost-effectively, whilst ultimately providing us with a level of assurance that we didn’t have before.”
OUTSCAN is an on demand Software as a Service (SaaS) Solution that scans the perimeter, enabling Wesleyan Assurance Society to easily detect, assess and manage vulnerabilities. Immediately deployed and easy to use, OUTSCAN accurately identifies vulnerabilities and produces customised reports detailing the risk exposure. HIAB on the other hand, is a plug-and-play internal vulnerability assessment and management appliance, placed inside the network to successfully identify and manage vulnerabilities on all servers, workstations, and other devices available from within the network.  Outpost24’s built in work flow tools allow Wesleyan Assurance society to easily scan, manage and remediate found vulnerabilities knowing their sensitive information is always secure.
Results/Benefits
Outpost24’s tools provide a complete, yet easy to use vulnerability management solution.  With Outpost24’s rapid deployment, Wesleyan Assurance Society was able to immediately identify its risks and reduce its exposure.
Outpost’s new feature, Scanning-Less Scanning (SLS), enables Wesleyan to stay on top of newly discovered vulnerabilities, even between scans, providing invaluable insight into their security posture without an increase in time or costs.
Further benefits of the products include the comprehensive reports generated, which detail any vulnerabilities identified, along with the appropriate remedy required, as well as the 24/7 customer service support offered.
“The detailed reports allow us to pinpoint and patch any identified vulnerabilities simply and easily,” continued Humphries. “They a
lso act as a valuable tool for our board that can see that we are continuing to maintain the integrity of cardholder data and other sensitive information held on our systems.”
With Outpost24, Wesleyan Assurance Society were able to find an indispensable tool for managing and reducing risk exposure in their IT networks, with superior technical support – and a great value for money.
About Wesleyan Assurance Society
Wesleyan Assurance Society has had the interests of its members at its core since it was founded in Birmingham in 1841.  In recent years, Wesleyan has developed a highly successful business model providing tailored financial advice and products to select professional groups, notably GPs, hospital doctors, dentists (read more), teachers and lawyers.  As a leading financial services organisation, Wesleyan is regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), and is subject to a variety of stringent compliance regulations.  It is therefore vital that it has robust security measures in place to protect the sensitive information held on its systems.
Each segment is served by dedicated Financial Consultants who work only within that segment and thus build-up specialist knowledge of their professional customers.  Wesleyan has an enviable record for financial strength and is the only life office to have achieved ten-out-of-ten for six consecutive years in the respected Cazalet Consulting With Profits Ratings Survey (December 2010).
As a mutual organisation, Wesleyan has no shareholders to serve and can therefore focus on taking the right long-term decisions on behalf of our Members and policyholders.  The Society is a founding member of Association of Financial Mutuals.
