A hacker collective called “Green Dragon Crew” said that a recent attack on a Ukrainian bank was done by them.
According to Softpedia, the denial of service attack was conducted for a few hours on June 30th and caused sporadic access to users. However the group claimed that they were able to breach the bank’s systems and obtain access to customers’ bank accounts. Russian news outlets said that the bank denied the information about a cyber attack on its systems, despite the fact that on Monday, the websites could not be accessed from Russia or Ukraine until 3pm, Moscow time.
The motivation behind the attack is that Igor Kolomoisky, the Privatbank owner, is apparently sponsoring acts of war in the South-East region of Ukraine. While the Green Dragon Crew only tweeted about its responsibility, it said it did not want to cause harm to the bank’s customers. However the Twitter account appears to have been created for the purpose of claiming the attack and stating the reason behind it, and it has not been used for any other messages.
