Advantage Dental has notified more than 150,000 patients that a computer was infected with malware, and an intruder gained access to a database containing their personal information.
Names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers and Social Security numbers were potentially breached during the unauthorised access between February 23rd-26th. The company said that access was terminated upon discovery.
Advantage Dental has been reviewing and improving its safeguards, has taken steps to prevent further access, and is working with law enforcement to determine the scope of the incident. “At this time, Advantage has no indication that the stolen information has been used for criminal activity, to include identity theft,” according to a notification posted to the Advantage Dental website.
