Any hope Morrisons’ bosses had of trying to draw a line under last year’s mass data breach – in which a disgruntled IT worker posted bank, salary and National Insurance details of almost 100,000 members of staff online – have been scuppered after 4,000 of those who were hit joined what is believed to be the UK’s biggest ever data security claim. The move follows a High Court ruling allowing them to pursue a group claim against the retailer for failing to prevent their data being posted on the Internet. Andrew Skelton, a senior internal auditor at Morrisons’ Bradford head office, was jailed for eight years in July.
