The revered broadcaster and security journalist Frank Gardner OBE and counter terror expert and Drone Warfare author Dr Dave Sloggett have been confirmed as keynote speakers for this year’s IFSEC International, taking place 18-20 June 2019 at ExCeL London.

Gardner has reported on many headline events, from Afghanistan and piracy off the Somali coast to Arctic challenges. Shot six times at close range while on assignment in Saudi Arabia in 2004, he was left severely wounded and dependant on a wheelchair. Awarded an OBE by HM The Queen in 2005, he is the author of three bestselling books.

Alan Taylor Research Fellow at The University of Oxford, Dr Dave Sloggett, has over 40 years of experience in the military and law enforcement sectors, is an authority on counter terrorism with his work taking him to Afghanistan, Iraq, the Balkans, West Africa and Northern Ireland, and author of Drone Warfare.

Gardner and Sloggett will deliver their presentations in the IFSEC Keynote Arena, host to a 21-session strong, free-to-attend programme designed to help visitors improve their security strategy, learn from real-life case studies and be inspired by some of the industry’s most influential figures.

“We’re delighted to announce such high-profile keynotes book-ending a fantastic line up in this year’s Keynote Arena, where speakers will discuss and debate some of the most topical and critical issues facing the security industry, from cybersecurity and ethical and legal challenges through to extremism, in this year’s IFSEC Keynote Arena,” said IFSEC event director Gerry Dunphy.

“If ever there was a face of security in the UK, it’s Frank Gardner, and we’re thrilled he’ll be presenting the opening keynote at IFSEC International this year, as well as returning to chair the Keynote Arena programme. And, with drones dominating hundreds of column inches over the last six months, we’re confident Dave Sloggett’s closing keynote will be equally packed out. Dave wrote Drone Warfare five years ago, one of the very first books to examine the development and use of aerial drones, and is more than an expert on the subject.”

Additional Keynote Arena sessions include:

Converged security operations centre
Securing football stadiums in 2019 – NFC using FLIR systems
What takes precedence: cost or safety & security?
Unmanned aerial vehicle technology – securing the future
Unmanned matters
Social media and security: a challenge and opportunity
Private public partnerships in security
Secure by default (and design)
Mitigating low technology threats
Tackling the cyber threat
Artificial Intelligence and machine learning for security: has its time come?
Modelling risk and crisis management for 2030

IFSEC has also confirmed the line-up for this year’s Future of Security Theatre brought to you by Tavcom. Sessions in this theatre are CPD-accredited and have been designed to providing installers and integrators with critical insight at the issues at the centre of the security industry.

Complementing the AI session in the Keynote Arena, tech journalist Darren Wildgoose will ask how AI will change the face of cyber security. Justin Pringle will lead a debate on the threats and countermeasures of drones, and the programme will also address hot issues including cybercrime, IOT and smart homes, how to hack autonomous vehicles, security in the museum sector, CCTV, GDPR and data storage.

IFSEC International is part of the Protection & Management Series of events, which hosts over 1,600 leading suppliers showcasing 200,000 products, along with education sessions and networking for the security, fire, facilities, health & safety, and service management industries.

An IFSEC visitor pass gives unlimited access to the entire Protection & Management Series, which includes FIREX International, Facilities Show and Safety & Health Expo.

To register for a free visitor pass to all four shows taking place 18-20 June at ExCeL London, please visit ifsec.co.uk/keynote
