Bridewell encourages elevating “untapped talent” this Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Bridewell Academy opens new pathways into cyber, helping to tackle the UK’s skills shortage by discovering untapped talent and making the industry more inclusive

Bridewell, a cybersecurity provider to CNI organisations, is marking Cybersecurity Awareness Month by encouraging the industry to make cybersecurity careers more accessible to individuals from all backgrounds in order to address the UK’s chronic skills shortage. To lead by example the company has also announced the next intake for its Bridewell Academy on November 10th.

Bridewell maintained that with demand for cybersecurity professionals outstripping supply, particularly in critical national infrastructure (CNI) sectors, barriers such as the perception that only those with technical degrees or costly certifications can enter the industry remain a major challenge.

To tackle this perception, it launched the Bridewell Academy in 2023, an innovative programme designed to recruit and train entry-level cyber talent. The Academy offers paid, permanent roles requiring no prior experience, blending structured training with hands-on client project work across areas such as penetration testing, threat intelligence, cyber defence and consultancy. Interested individuals can apply for the Bridewell Academy from November 10th.

To date, 25 Academy graduates have transitioned into full-time roles at Bridewell, contributing directly to securing the UK’s most vital systems while building long-term careers in the CNI sector.

“At its heart, our Academy programme provides a structured but supportive pathway into the world of cybersecurity,” said Jayson Haynes, Early Careers Business Partner at Bridewell. “It not only tackles the skills shortage that exists within the sector but also enriches the industry by harnessing diverse perspectives, something vital in staying ahead of modern cyber threats.

“Whether an individual is technical or creative, analytical or strategic, we recognise that cybersecurity thrives on a broad mix of minds and perspectives. By opening the door to new talent, and providing a rewarding and attainable career path, we can create and shape a more innovative and inclusive cyber industry.”

Bridewell continues to invest in new initiatives, training and inclusive career pathways to ensure that cybersecurity is seen as an accessible, rewarding and future-proof profession.
