If there is a reason to stay up to date with the latest software updates and patches, it would be for security. Granted not every patch is exciting as sometimes there are no new features, but security is important and generally speaking they should be installed as soon as possible, otherwise you could leave your devices open to attack. In fact Homeland Security has recently issued a warning (via Phandroid) that certain Huawei devices are vulnerable to DDoS reboots if they are running a certain version of software on their phones.
