Winner’s Spotlight: Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards 2024 – Cyber Writer
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

This year’s Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards uncovered and celebrated the individuals and teams that go above and beyond to make the UK a safer place to do business, as well as share and spread their expertise far and wide. The sponsors included KnowBe4, Check Point Software, ThinkCyber, The Zensory, Hornetsecurity and Pulse Conferences.

The IT Security Guru caught up with Cyber Writer winner, Geoff White, about his role and what the Security Serious Unsung Heroes Award means to him.

Tell us a little bit more about your role?

GW: I keep up with what the hackers, fraudsters and money launderers are up to, and turn that into compelling, informative narratives in books, podcasts and documentaries.

Why is community so important in cybersecurity?

GW: Cyber can be an unforgiving job. Budgets are tight, the industry is often seen as a roadblock within organisations, rather than an enabler, and the hackers are constantly probing and innovating. Having a community to turn to for support and advice is essential – after all, it’s what the bad guys do on their crime forums and discussion pages!

What does winning a Security Serious Unsung Heroes Award mean to you?

GW: It’s a real honour to win this award. I’m intensely aware I’m not exactly the shy and retiring type, so I think the real unsung heroes are the folks who do interviews for me, explain things to me, and keep us all safe every day. Thanks!

Finally, Geoff hinted that he’s already thinking about his next new book. He mainly uses LinkedIn, so keep an eye on his posts there to see what’s coming next!
