Jamie Saunders said that key organised gang figures involved in large-scale fraud moved from ‘laddish’ online behaviour to ‘extremely corrosive’ behaviour. He said it begins with “stealing gold off each other in online games, cheating if you like” and in the background of cyber criminals, it “does start with play: stealing swords and gold in online games”, referring to a case in December of a 17-year-old who pled guilty to money laundering and computer attacks.
He said that the NCA was starting to “track the beginning of criminality” and trying to see patterns that warrant early intervention.
