A survey of 1,336 industry professionals by Infosecurity Europe found that 62 per cent of participants claim to be able to detect a breach within seven days, yet two per cent said that it took at least a year.

Also, the survey found that 69 per cent of those who participated in the survey indicated that their organisation recognises the need to invest more in incident response and when asked about the greatest information risk facing their organisation today, 32 per cent of survey respondents cited external threats such as hacking, malware, APTs / Advanced threats and DDoS attacks as their biggest concern.

With security incidents at Sony Pictures, eBay and Target hitting the headlines, 67 per cent of survey participants revealed that recent high-profile breaches had a positive effect on making the business understand the potential threats, but 62 per cent said that the main concern for an organisation is reputational damage, with only 14 per cent stating financial loss as their prime concern.
